Who We Are

Riva Horenstein grew up at the New Jersey shore and knew from the age of 12 that she wanted to be a nurse.

Upon becoming a Registered Professional Nurse in 1982, Riva started off working on a neurology unit in order to get good medical-surgical experience. In time, she grew passionate about cardiovascular nursing and found herself working in very prestigious institutions such as Columbia Presbyterian in their cardiac intensive care unit and later at St. Michael’s Medical Center, where she specialized in post cardiac surgery nursing in their cardiac recovery room.

During the years she was raising her family, she worked in the outpatient setting in the community for many years. More recently she worked in the capacity of case manager for The Visiting Nurse Service of NY, and she served on the Heart Failure Team, part of Montefiore Medical Center’s Disease Management department.

Riva’s career in Legal Nurse Consulting began in 2006 when she passed the rigorous certification exam to become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC ®). She found herself fascinated with the relationship between medicine and law. She founded RN Consulting of Greater NY, LLC in 2007. Riva is trained to work on cases involving personal injury, medical malpractice, products liability, toxic torts, criminal acts and workers compensation. She has worked for both plaintiff and defense attorneys.

Riva continues to enjoy the excitement and challenge of working with her attorney clients on their diverse medical-related cases. She finds great fulfillment in making a difference in the financial bottom line for her clients and in being able to use all those years of  varied nursing experience and applying her expertise to the case at hand. She feels that her clients successes in winning cases or receiving huge rewards when cases settle out of court, is what determines her success in her work as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC ®).

Riva loves to take the pain of interpreting medical records away from her clients. Because of her diverse nursing background and expertise, she sees not only what is written in those medical records but what is NOT written. She can read between the lines. The message to her clients, present and future, “You are the legal expert. I am the medical expert. Together we are unstoppable!”
